Award Winning! Best wedding videographer in the south west

We have won the award for Best Wedding Videographer 2012 in the south west region in the 2012 Wedding Industry Awards. Thank you so much to all couples who took the time to vote for us. The judging decision was very much based on voters comments and scores so we are chuffed that so many couples have given us so many glowing reviews.

Being a regional winner we now go through to the national awards, the winner of which is announced at an awards ceremony in London in January.

This is a huge achievement for us and a real encouragement for the future. We are very much looking forward 2012 and hopefully seeing our work evolve to another level.

Craig & Jenny Highlights Video

Bride & Groom: Jenny and Craig
Date: 15th July 2011
Ceremony Venue : Highcliffe Castle
Reception Venue : The Lord Bute Hotel
Highlights song : Time of my life

Jenny and Craig were married on a glorious sunny day in July at the ever grand Highcliffe Castle. Jenny arrived in a white horse and carriage which completed the fairy tale castle wedding. Jenny looked stunning in her dress while Craig got very nervous/emotional waiting for her to walk down the isle - hopefully this video captures that. The Lord bute hotel is a minutes walk down the road from Highcliffe castle. Its a lovely little hotel with amazing food and even better service -  I always enjoy filming there. Craig did really well with his speech, a small part of it is included in this highlights video. The dance floor was filled after the first dance, i'm sure the rest of the evening was quite a party. All the best to them both in their future together.

About Us

Wedding Memories is owned and run by me (Alex) and my wife Paula. We live in beautiful Poole in Dorset and have two amazing children, Madeline and Max.

Our entrance into wedding videography certainly wasn't planned. We filmed a friends wedding and really enjoyed the filming aspect as well as applying our creativity to the editing. We filmed another and then another and then another... well you can probably see where its going. Now into our fourth year we are full time wedding videographers.

We have filmed weddings at many different venues across the south and met lots of amazing couples. We feel privileged that couples entrust us to video document their day and we realise the responsibility involved. We enjoy what we do and are proud of our work. We love being at weddings and capturing all those special moments.

Our style is (we think) unique and different from what's around. We are focused on creating beautiful contemporary cinematic wedding films you can cherish forever as a lasting video record of your day.

Our Approach

Our Approach - Filming
Relaxed, not in your face, unobtrusive, blending into the background coverage - this is how it's been from the outset and what comes naturally to us, a reflection of our personalities probably. For the most part our style is completely reportage - we will not ask you to do anything or say anything. Capturing day as it unfolds always looks best, is non cringe(!) and natural - you being who you are (and your family/guests).

Many couples comment how they hardly notice us on the day. We can't be invisible and have a fair amount of equipment, but we will always do our best. Sometimes we have to get a bit closer then we'd like because of the amount of room there is or the type of shot we want.

Equipment wise we use Canon DSLR still cameras in video mode. These are brilliant cameras as they are small but give unrivalled quality. The look of the picture is very filmic because, by the nature of the cameras, we can implement a shallow depth of field giving those lovely blurry backgrounds. We shot in full high-definition 1080p. We use 'Glidetrack' and 'Glidecam' support systems to create those cool slider and tracking shots like you see in the movies. Our cameras are amazing in low light so inside shots will look just as good as outside ones.

From the beginning we have always used multiple cameras during formal parts (ceremony/speeches). Multiple cameras allow us to capture all those special moments and makes the final edit look really professional. Also think action/reaction - bride walking down the isle, the groom looking back seeing her for the first time. For us one camera wouldn't be safe either - what if it failed, was operated incorrectly at key points (we are not perfect!). During the ceremony there will always be two of us (unless it is a very small venue). Many videographers charge extra for a second camera. We include this because we feel our style and quality of work would be compromised if we only used one camera.

Sound is as important as picture. We use remote microphones during the ceremony and speeches to pick up the words clearly. Other videographers over look sound and you can end up with some lovely moving images but its a struggle to hear anything during the ceremony and speeches.

We believe our filming is unique and is what sets us apart from the competition. We have filmed a lot of weddings and know what works best.  I won't say to much on this because hopefully our videos speak for themselves.

Our Approach - Editing
Our editing style has evolved as we refine and work out what works best. Our aim is to tell the story of your day through a film which is really watchable - i.e. not boring. We are not saying your wedding will be boring but clips are only kept in if there is a reason for them (they go together with others to create a sequence which conveys something). We also don't include clips we think you would find difficult to watch (i.e. cringe!).

Music is used throughout the main edit and for the highlights edit. All music is chosen by you.

Footage comes out of the camera looking quite 'flat'. We spend a lot of time colour grading and processing clips, applying filters to make your film polished and film like.

Speeches are included in full. The DVD menus and case inserts are completely personalised to your wedding.

Ben & Nicole Highlights Video | Athelhampton House

Bride & Groom: Ben & Nicole Lewis
Date : 4th June 2011
Ceremony Venue : St. Marks Church Bournemouth
Reception : Athelhampton House

Memorable moments: Nicole just looking amazing - what a dress! The best men speech, the yellow bath ducks for everyone on the tables, bridesmaids video message with the ducks, the amazing Athelhampton house and its beautiful grounds, Ben's mum getting all emotional during the first dance.

We were recommended to Ben and Nicole by the talented David and Terri from Murakami photography (whose pictures are always amazing by the way). http://www.murakamiphotography.com/

Ben and Nicole were so relaxed and easy going on the day. They had great weather and Athelhampton provided such a beautiful setting.

Congratulations to them both and we wish them a happy future together.

Ceremony Venue : Christchurch Priory
Reception : Christchurch Harbour Hotel

Memorable moments: Bridesmaids struggling to do up Tessa's dress and photographer getting involved, the atmosphere in the priory as Tessa walked down the isle, Danielle's amazing rendition of Over the rainbow during the signing of the register, Tessa's veil attacking Rob and guests in the windy conditions, Tyler's speech, Rob's dancing in the first dance :)

There was an excellent band at the evening reception called The Elastic Party Band : http://www.theelasticpartyband.com/

It was a pleasure being part of Rob and Tessa's big day. Tessa had planned it brilliantly and the whole wedding had such a great atmosphere about it. We wish them all the best for their future together.
